Energy Modeling & Compliance

Residential energy modeling and compliance

One coordinated path for code and ENERGY STAR®

Tacoma Energy supports residential builders pursuing energy-code compliance, ENERGY STAR® certification, or both. We identify the applicable requirements, model the project, coordinate design inputs, and connect the documentation needed from plan review through project closeout.

Requirements may vary by jurisdiction, permit timing, project type, adopted code, and applicable program version.
Supported project pathways

Different requirements. One accountable process.

Code Compliance Modeling and documentation aligned with applicable jurisdictional requirements and the approved compliance path.
ENERGY STAR® Modeling, verification, documentation, and certification support coordinated around applicable program requirements.
Integrated project coordination Modeling, design inputs, field verification, testing, and documentation connected through one team.
How the process works

From requirements review through project closeout

Tacoma coordinates the technical inputs and documentation needed to keep the selected compliance or certification pathway moving forward.

01

Confirm the applicable requirements

We review project location, permit timing, plans, specifications, code pathway, program goals, and other project requirements before modeling begins.

02

Model and coordinate the project

Our team evaluates the building enclosure, mechanical systems, water heating, ventilation, and other inputs while coordinating the reports and design information required by the project.

03

Verify, document, and close out

Modeling requirements are connected with applicable inspections, testing, correction tracking, documentation, and final compliance or certification support.

Project pathways

What changes and what stays coordinated

Code and ENERGY STAR® projects may follow different requirements, but builders should not have to manage disconnected modeling, verification, and documentation processes.

Code Compliance

The applicable energy-code requirements are determined by the project location, jurisdiction, permit timing, adopted code, and approved compliance pathway.

Jurisdictional and permit-date review
Applicable compliance-path modeling
Required reports and closeout documentation

ENERGY STAR®

ENERGY STAR® projects follow the applicable program version and associated modeling, design, inspection, testing, documentation, and certification requirements.

Applicable program-version review
Program modeling and verification coordination
Certification documentation and completion support
What stays consistent Tacoma Energy coordinates the modeling assumptions, design inputs, verification requirements, test results, corrections, and final documentation through one accountable process.
International Code Council resource

Check Energy-Code Requirements by State

Review code-adoption information through the International Code Council. Adoption and enforcement can vary by state and local jurisdiction, so Tacoma Energy confirms project-specific requirements separately.

What builders receive

Clear requirements and defensible documentation

The exact deliverables depend on the selected pathway, jurisdiction, program, and project scope.

Performance modeling

Energy analysis and ERI or performance-path evaluation based on applicable project requirements.

Design coordination

Building-envelope, mechanical, ventilation, and specification inputs coordinated with the modeled project.

Verification requirements

Clear identification and coordination of applicable inspections, testing, documentation, and correction items.

Compliance and certification support

Required reports, supporting records, and final documentation coordinated through project completion.

Not every project requires every service or deliverable shown above. Tacoma Energy confirms the applicable scope based on the project's location, pathway, and program requirements.
